Plastic has revolutionized industry: it is included in all types of products, but has also polluted the oceans, killing hundreds of thousands of animals who die strangled by waste or poisoned by chemicals dumped into the sea every year. 80% of what is thrown into the ocean is made of plastic, and we are only the third generation using this product. Plastic does not easily dissolve, creating a “soup” that, in the best case, breaks into pieces to remain on the ocean hundreds of years. But what is the cost of this? What are the consequences in the food chain?
The journalist from France 3, Sandrine Feydel, has spent the last few years researching environmental issues. The Mermaids’ Tears: Oceans of Plastics explores the impact of plastic pollution on oceans and possible solutions to minimize damage.
